Schloss Neuschwanstein, the stuff fantasy is made of

For the last day of this challenge, I’ve chosen a childhood fantasy: Schloss Neuschwanstein, near Fussen, Germany.

Like many people my age, I was fascinated and enchanted by the film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang: I think I went to the cinema about 8 times to see it with different people as I just couldn’t get enough of it. This castle, of course, features in it as the home of the Baron and I knew one day I would get to visit it. Well, that dream came true 3 years ago, in the summer of 2012, when DH and I finally made it to Bavaria, a stunning region whose beauty cannot be described in words and to which we’re returning this year.

I would now like to nominate Pedmar10 from http://paris1972-versailles2003.com/ for this challenge. Pedmar is a keen traveller based in the Morbihan, Brittany, France, with many a story to tell and photographs to share.

The challenge is: Post a photo each day for five consecutive days and attach a story to the photo. It can be fiction or non-fiction, a poem or a short paragraph and each day nominate another blogger for the challenge.

  1. This is lovely. What a fascinating place to visit and I too, loved the movie Chitty Chitty Bang Bang! I will have to go read the rest of your challenge posts when I get a few moments. I’ve been taking a sort of break from social media for the past few days and still need a few more! Have to recharge my batteries. 🙂

    • Thank you, Mad. I am glad you like this post. I don’t blame you for taking a few days off social media. I do that every time we travel and I will also switch off from it when we go away on 3rd July. Enjoy your break. 🙂

  2. I’ve seen lots of castles but I think Neuschwanstein is my all time favorite castle and you got a get shot of it. I agree with you about Bavaria, it really is hard to describe how beautiful that area of Germany is.

  3. Thank you for your kind comment, Karen. I’m so excited about going back to Bavaria this year! More great pictures to follow, I hope! We’ll be away on Friday, but I don’t usually start posting my blogs until we come back, as I just write it all down in my diary first. We’ll be back on 5th September. Have a wonderful summer. ❤ 🙂

  4. That is beautiful, I just wish I hadn’t been so traumatised by the Child Catcher…”There are children here somewhere. I can smell them” ewwwww *shudder*

  5. So you will be returning to that place?… Schloss Neuschwanstein´s Castle looks extraordinary…. Very beautiful!… Have a wonderful weekend dear Fatima. 💫✨🌟 Sending you all my best wishes!. Aquileana 😀

  6. I was near Füssen earlier this year at a place called Kochel See and Tegern See, worth a place to visit if you ever go back to Deutchland, Also I don’t know if you’ve already done it but go to Überlingen Bodensee in August September time, they do a fireworks display over the lake from Konstanz and you can get a boat trip on the lake to watch the fireworks. Also Tegern See is a really good place to relax, they have several cure facilities there Aswell one of Germany’s specialies.

    • Thank you for your suggestions, Wolfblood. We did go to Konstanz and Überlingen in 2011, but we try to avoid fireworks displays as our dog gets very upset and really freaks out. Kochel and Tegern sound good, though and we’ll definitely go back to Germany as there’s still a lot we want to see.
